Fight of colors

Wayne Coine vs Jack Johnson

I thought these photos were kind of similar. We play more Jack Johnson, but I think in any other type of match up The Flaming Lips would win. Click here to see more photos of The Flaming Lips Show at Vanderbilt's Rites of Spring!

Music City Deathmatch

Music City Mayhem has gone greater than expected. It's just another step towards supporting local music on Lightning 100. I went out for St. Patrick's Day dressed up as a Leperchaun, which gets you tons of free drinks, when I ran into one of the completing bands. I waited until 12 o'clock to read them their results, to find out it was a tie. Honestly, we did not even think about this when coming up with the MCM contest. So the next morning I get a call from my boss about coming into the station for an interview/update on what we are going to to break the tie. Being a little hungover, I still held my own during the interview where I told Mary Brace on the morning show at we're playing on having a deathmatch. We later decided that we would have a call in during Lt. Dan's lunch request hour.

During the Request Lunch Hour, we had fans call in and vote either for Parachute Musical or Lorien. We also had a Coldplay giveaway accuring during the same hour. Parachute Musical ended up winning the tie breaker, while Coldplay came in second place with people calling during the giveaway.

Dancing for the stars

I stumbled across Lonely Island Productions after getting an email about one of their first internet videos "Just 2 Guys". It is a hip hop song about how much 2 guys are having, by themselves, at their party. The awkward humor internet sensation later lead them to working on SNL for the digital shorts. The lasted addition is I'm on a Boat featuring T-Pain. I actually want to address the other videos they have up that I have never seen. They captured amateur videos of Jorma dancing backstage during sound check during SNL!

I am not enough of a Mac for this girl.

Check out this video by The Birds and The Bees for their song "Again and Again". If you have ever edited a video or owned a Mac, I think you should be impressed. Actually, if you have ever watched a music video, you should be impressed. "Again and Again" makes all of my video projects seem mircoscopical in the production world.

Check out the Windows XP version.

bringing back the mix tape

You know you might be a hipster when 80's inspired gadgets get you excited. It is the first time I have heard of an environmental friendly mp3 player.

Available in 45, 60, or 90-minute storage capacities, this cassette tape-inspired MP3 player requires "the user to manually rotate the spools with a finger or pencil to select songs. Rotating the second spool charges the kinetic battery."

Web Guy vs. Brett Dennon

So during our promotions meeting, Mary made the comment "Brian looks just like Brett Dennen." I personally don't see it. He is about 6 inches taller than me and his hair is four shades brighter than mine.

I did barely make it to film this interview. It was my birthday and I had gone out the night before for a few 12 o'clock drinks. You forget how many friends one has until they all buy you drinks.

After filming the interview, I went to our editing station to find out that the tape was broken. So I ended up spending 40 minutes trying to get the tape out of the camera. It was a good start to being 24.

How a camera got a black eye from the boss.

In case you missed the highly anticiapated performance from The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, here is highlight reel. The Boss learned at the super bowl that it's not a good idea to power slide over the age of 45.

Ashley Monroe Interview Friday

Ashley Monroe will be visiting the studio with Trent Dabbs for an interview with Lt. Dan. She just did a kick ass version of the song "Old Enough" with the Raconteurs and Ricky Skaggs. I am really looking forward to this upcoming interview.

Top 8 inventions in 2008

Amazon Kindle
Weighing less than a paperback at 10.3 oz, Amazon’s new e-book reader includes 88,000 titles, with all bestsellers listed at $9.99. It can hold 200 titles at one time and has a battery life of up to a week without a recharge. It also includes exclusive subscriptions to top U.S. and international newspapers and magazines, 250 blogs, e-mail capability, and Wikipedia access. It’s a one stop shop for all things literary and it’s all delivered wirelessly in under a minute from the Kindle store.

Solar Powered Bonsai Tree
Eco friendly ipod botanice will be happy to know that the prototype for the solar powered ipod bonsai tree charger has been completed. It won't be available for purchase until 2009, but is too awesome to leave off the list for 2008.

Interactive Mirror
You know the feeling. You try on a shirt at the store and think you look pretty fly, but you need a second opinion. With Social Retailing, developed by Icon Nicholson and shown at Bloomingdale's in March, you can send a video to your friends' cell phones and instantly get their vote. You can also try on outfits virtually using a mirror that shows how fab they might look or not.

GPS Police Tracker
High-speed chases may be money shots in Hollywood, but everywhere else they're just dangerous. The StarChase Pursuit Management System uses a laser-guided launcher mounted on the front grill of a cop car to tag fleeing vehicles with a GPS tracking device. Then the fuzz can hang back as real-time location data are sent to police headquarters.

Ipod Projector

Enough juice for 2 hours of video play, the Optoma ipod projector makes any flat surface your personal movie screen. Contains one mini speaker on the projector to create your theatre eperience. Now all the user has to do is find a flat white wall to view their movie.

Zero Emissions One Wheel Motocycle
Just before his plane dipped into the clouds above Beijing International Airport two years ago, Ben Gulak caught the last clear view of the sun that he would see for two weeks. On the ground, the 17-year-old, who was on a family trip to China, quickly spotted a source for much of the thick haze hanging over the city: smog-spewing motorbikes. Thousands of them, everywhere. “Right then,” he says, “I decided that I wanted to create an alternative mode of transportation, something clean and compact.”

XO Laptop
It's not the most powerful computer you'll ever buy, but it just might help save the world. That's the idea behind the XO Laptop, developed by Nicholas Negroponte of the MIT Media Lab. The stripped-down machine with its sunlight-friendly screen is perfect for kids in the developing world, and the low price encourages governments to buy in bulk.

3G iPhone
In 2008, Apple put out another great product for it's ever exclusive fans. The iPhone turned a normal cell phone into a GPS, iPod, camera, radio, weather channel, paino, calendar, cook book, gaming system, remote control, sudoku pad, web browser, tip calculator, store, fitness trainer, dog whistle, and those are just the applications I downloaded yesterday.

hip hop coffee

So I just want to explain that I am only the web guy. I do not select music to put onto the station. Lately, I've been getting a lot of new friend request on myspace. I believe that is due to the fact that I am one of Lightning 100 top friends. It not really a problem, I normally make time to listen to at least one song by the artist. One artist keeps trying to add me continuously on myspace though. He is a hip hop artist, which is far from something that we play on the station. No beats fast than 3/4 time signature will be played on Lightning 100.

The other day I saw this hip hop artist at Starbucks, and I think he recognized me. He did not approach me asking about the myspace friend denial, but it was weird. I do like hip hop, but he is too east coast and I like the west coast style.

Who really runs Lightning 100?

After 6 months of employment I finally got to the bottom of who runs Lightning 100.

You guest right, Reba Mcentire. Well not really, but I do see her everyone morning on my drive to work. Reba Mcentire's face in on the water tower right above the Marathon Motors building. Feel free to come by the Marathon Motors building and visit your friends at Lightning 100, Yazoo Brewing, and Reba Mcentire.

Please do not climb the water tower.

Do you watch The Office?

We have a new employee working upstairs in the attic with me at Lightning 100. It is nice having someone up here to talk to, but I do miss my morning, lunch break and afternoon naps that I used to take. The second day she moved up here I noticed that I got an email from Kreed. The only thing I could think of is the creepy old guy from The Office. I am starting to wonder which would win in a fight. Maybe something none violent like office olympics.
