So I just want to explain that I am only the web guy. I do not select music to put onto the station. Lately, I've been getting a lot of new friend request on myspace. I believe that is due to the fact that I am one of Lightning 100 top friends. It not really a problem, I normally make time to listen to at least one song by the artist. One artist keeps trying to add me continuously on myspace though. He is a hip hop artist, which is far from something that we play on the station. No beats fast than 3/4 time signature will be played on Lightning 100.
The other day I saw this hip hop artist at Starbucks, and I think he recognized me. He did not approach me asking about the myspace friend denial, but it was weird. I do like hip hop, but he is too east coast and I like the west coast style.

Who really runs Lightning 100?
After 6 months of employment I finally got to the bottom of who runs Lightning 100.
You guest right, Reba Mcentire. Well not really, but I do see her everyone morning on my drive to work. Reba Mcentire's face in on the water tower right above the Marathon Motors building. Feel free to come by the Marathon Motors building and visit your friends at Lightning 100, Yazoo Brewing, and Reba Mcentire.
Please do not climb the water tower.

Do you watch The Office?
We have a new employee working upstairs in the attic with me at Lightning 100. It is nice having someone up here to talk to, but I do miss my morning, lunch break and afternoon naps that I used to take. The second day she moved up here I noticed that I got an email from Kreed. The only thing I could think of is the creepy old guy from The Office. I am starting to wonder which would win in a fight. Maybe something none violent like office olympics.

Sheryl Crow has a lot of friends.
Sheryl Crow showed up at the studio today with a full entourage.
3 Guitarist
2 Back up singers
3 Different Managers
1 Assistant
2 Roadies
1 Sound Engineer
1 Photographer
1 Random Kid
We were asked to not take photos or videos of the interview. If you want to listen to the interview, check it out on our on demand interview page. Don't worry though, I did get you something. Sheryl Crow left her coffee cup that she was drinking out of at the studio, so I grabbed it. Check out this exclusive blog only contest. The first person to leave me a comment wins Sheryl Crow's coffee cup from the Lightning 100 studio. You have a week until I put this cup on ebay to pay my mortgage.

We keep a lot of strange things.
The last few weeks have been interesting. Each day I spend most of my time on the website, but I am also cleaning out the upstairs so I can have an official desk and work area. As you can imagine, a radio station can collect a lot of crap. We have endless boxes of cds that we don't play, paper work dated from 1992 and an assortment of free promo stuff that no one really ever wanted. I did find an assortment of humorous items:
Broken radio tower light

Old police lightst that used to be on top of the van
We still play 8-tracks

Lt. Dan's secret stach of bad movie soundtracks
One eyed broken desk toy
Bottle of lube
I stopped cleaning after I found the bottle of lube. Give me another week and I will be blogging from a real desk. Wish me luck.Monday, July 7, 2008
DJ Puppy
So the other day Laurel found these three puppies out by the train tracks. Laurel is a strong believer in "no pup left behind" philosophy, so she brought them up to the station. They are actually hanging out in our office, not making a peep. We are asking our listeners if there is anyone out there that would want to provide a home for these puppies? I have already given them names, but feel free to rename them. If you are inquiring about the three dogs, please call 242-5600.

First real joblog
Hello, my name is Brian Waters and you have no idea who I am. I recently started work at WRLT Lightning 100 as the New Media Content Coordinator. So right now, you could just call me the website guy. Now I have been an active blogger for the last few years, but now I have to hone my ADD blogging skills into something people might actually want to read. While working at a radio station, it is always interesting on who or what might show up at the station. Today I tripped over a Yuengling canoe in the station.

While being confused about why there was a canoe in the station, I was also complexed on how I did not notice it enough to trip on it. Yesterday Tommy Emmanuel came out to the station to promote his show at TPAC. He was nice enough to let me film one of his songs played on air. Check the video out, he became a professional guitar player by age six.
